My neighbor’s kid studies in 6th grade and me and him went for a ride with his little brother. We interchanged our cycles. He rode my Hercules ACT 110 and me in his MTB.

It’s been almost 5 years since I used a gear less cycle. I used to cycle everyday during my college days, a gear less Hercules Roadster (21″ frame) cycle. Cycling was necessary in those days. It was the only mode of transport for me from my home to bus stop in the morning and back home in the evening after college. My home is exactly at a distance of 2KM’s from Karkala-Kudremukh main road (NH13 now). The bus stop is at a small tiny place called Kadari which is embedded in the foot hills of Western Ghats. From Kadari a mud route running amidst Cashew plantation and Acacia trees leads to my home. I had to cycle everyday no matter what. In the heavy monsoon rains or in the scorching April heat or in the nerve wrenching December cold, cycling was a part of life.

Gone are the days, things changed with the time. Motor bikes are replacing the old heroes and Hercules’s’. (I think I am deviating, I will write more about my native place sometime later).

Coming back to cycling, it was a struggle today to pedal the gear less MTB. 6 KM’s seemed almost like 60 KM’s. Gosh, relaxing now.
